INKTOBER is a month for all illustrators around the world. In the month of October, illustrators from around the world drawing a sketch design using ink and posting it on the internet as a challenge for engaging people to improve inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. A professional artist Jake Parker who has worked on several Hollywood projects initiating to share an Inktober prompt list to help inspire those running out ideas. Parker has been started to share the challenge since Inktober festival 2009. Parker campaigning Inktober to illustrators for developing inking skills using traditional drawing tools with ink like, marker, pen etc.
In Indonesia, Inktober has become popular since 2014. At that time, an account @inktoberindonesia started to post many sketches form Indonesian illustrators. Inktober challenge gives us an opportunity to see arts no need to visit exhibition places. Inktober becomes more popular because many Indonesian illustrators shared their works on Instagram and also there are a lot of exhibition places displaying their artworks to engage people developing their inking skills. One of the biggest art exhibitions is Popcon Asia that has been partnering with Kreavi, Glitch and Kratoon Channel successfully accommodating Indonesian illustrators’ sketches artwork.
The exhibition got positive responses from visitors. They can’t tell which is a sketch from Indonesia and an art form international artists. The purpose of Inktober Festival is to help motivating illustrators keep creating artworks a whole year consistently. Many illustrators used to draw in digital, that is why Inktober festival is the right moment to engage people developing their inking skills using traditional tools.
