KNOW YOUR ENGLISH, KNOW YOUR COMPETENCE

Globalisation has led the young generation to compete, to be able to develop relationship and communicate with people around the world. English, known as an international language, had successfully tighten the bond of a variety of humans with only words. That is why knowing your level of English is important if you want to enhance your global competence by, first, completing a TOEFL Test.

TOEFL Test is a standardized test specially provided for non-native speakers to measure their ability in the English language to enrol in English-speaking universities. Usually, the test has two types that are commonly used by students, the official and the institutional test. The official test includes the PBT (Paper-Based Test), IBT (Internet-Based Test) and CBT (Computer-Based Test) which are accepted by global universities. While the institutional test, called ITP (Institutional Testing Program), provides a test for specific needs of some institutions, such as scholarship, with the highest score of 677. Both tests are similar in section divisions, with reading, listening and writing assessment. However, TOEFL IBT has speaking section to deeply analyse your English skills. Through this short explanation, knowing the difference between the two and your university requirements for English proficiency is a must. You may check it on their website or contact your university directly, so you can be more efficient by doing the harder ones like IBT when you are required to only submit ITP results.

Recognizing the need for young leaders to increase global competence, BNEC was made to support this by providing a TOEFL Test annually. This year, the TOEFL Test was held on 15 March 2019 in BINUS University Alam Sutera. Even though the purpose was to help seniors to apply for internships or master’s degree, we were also attracting all Binusians and others from outside the university with different a price offered. The test provided was PBT in collaboration with Cornell University, so the quality was ensured. On the D-Day, the test was made into two shifts in which the first shift started on 8 to 11 a.m., while the second shift was held on 1 to 4 p.m… To look at the results, we also provide an official TOEFL certificate as a proof for participating. In the end, students were seen to take this test seriously to continuously show the world their competence to live and compete in a global environment.
